Bhubaneswar: The health condition of the newborn baby, who was rescued alive from a bore-well near Rengali, seems to be critical with internal bleeding in her body, VIMSAR authorities informed.

The infant with external wounds on the body is an underweight pre-matured baby, they added.

“Even though other parameters are good, the ultrasound report confirmed internal bleeding in her body, which triggers fear among us. We hope it will heal in three to four days. Otherwise, we would go for any alternative treatment. We are waiting for 72 hours. After that, we can say whether she would improve,” VIMSAR superintendent Prof Lalmohan Nayak said.

“All parameters are good which is usual in pre-term delivery. We are also in constant touch with Cuttack Sishu Bhavan. We are observing her condition for three more days. Then we will think about shifting,” he added.

The infant who was thrown into an abandoned open bore-well by an unknown person at Laripali near Rengali in Sambalpur district was rescued after a seven-hour long operation by the fire services personnel and ODRAF on Monday.

Locals heard the screaming of the baby stuck in the bore well, measuring 15-20 feet in depth. They immediately informed the fire service department following which from Rengali, along with a team from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force in Jharsuguda rushed to the site and started rescue operation. Later, local administration and police also joined the operation. An NDRF team from Mundali in Cuttack was mobilised to support the ongoing rescue efforts.

The rescue team reached her by digging a parallel pit and took her out from the bore-well pipe by cutting it with the help of a hacksaw.
