Bhubaneswar: Winter chill has intensified across Odisha during the last 24 hours with at least 29 places in the state recording minimum temperatures (night temperatures) below 15°C under the influence of cold winds blowing from the north-northwest direction. Life was disturbed at many places due to the occurrence of shallow to dense fog which reduced visibility significantly.
According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Koraput was the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 8.6°C. Other places in the state where the mercury dropped below 10°C include Angul (9.0°C), Keonjhar (9.0°C), Phulbani (9.0°C), Daringbadi (9.0°C), Sundargarh (9.8°C) and Rourkela (9.8°C).
The minimum temperature recorded in the capital city Bhubaneswar and neighbouring Cuttack was 13.5°C,
The weather condition was mainly dry with the occurrence of fog at many places, the IMD said, adding, the condition would continue for the next 4-5 days. There is likely to be a slight improvement in the condition from next week due to western disturbances. Some places in the state may also experience light to moderate rainfall on December 22 and 23.
