Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police busted an inter-state robbers’ gang and arrested six persons in connection with an ATB robbery case in Sarmuhan in Bolangir district and seized Rs 6,62,800 in cash, one four-wheeler, and six mobile phones from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Saddam Khan (32), Mustakeem (28), Rahul Khan (25), Abid (33), Ahsaan (29), and Babbal (35). All the accused are natives of Rajasthan.
According to an official release, a CMS employee named Biswa Mohan Sahu (43), of Batharla under Patnagarh police reports filed a complaint with them alleging that he filled the SBI ATM at Sarmuhan with Rs 7,64,000 on December 16. On the following day, he came to know that unidentified miscreants had robbed about Rs 7 lakh from the ATM breaking it open with a gas cutter.
Acting on Sahu’s complaint, Bolangir police registered a case and formed multiple teams comprising officers and staff of Patnagarh, Lathor, Belpada, Cyber, DFSL, Bolangir Safe City CCTV control room, and Cyber Cell police stations.
These teams started searching for clues and evidence to establish the identity of the accused persons. They were able to establish the identity of the involved criminals by using CCTV and
ANPR cameras were installed in Bolangir Town and from the other locations. Nagpur City police and Seoni district police in Madhya Pradesh helped the teams by providing vital clues, prompt detection, and investigation of the case.
During the investigation, it was found that all the accused took a flight from Delhi to Jharsuguda, assembled, and committed theft of cash from the SBI ATM in Sarmuhan. They took the services of a local gas cutter, arranged spray, and stole an oxygen cylinder from a nearby garage on the night before committing the crime. After committing the crime, they fled in a car towards Sambalpur via Sonepur and also attempted to commit another theft at Sahaspur SBI ATM under Dhama police limits in Sambalpur district.
