Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Health Department on Friday advised people to undergo a COVID test if they suspect that they have the symptoms of this viral disease.
“Although we have not reported any COVID case in the state since December 3, as a precautionary measure people, especially elderly with comorbid diseases, should get themselves tested if they suspect they have developed any symptom of the disease,” Dr Niranjan Mishra, Director, Public Health Department, told the media today. “However, it is always advisable to wear masks,” he added.
According to Dr Mishra, the symptoms of the new variants of COVID are similar to those of the common cold and seasonal flu and can be treated by staying at home. “There is no need for hospitalisation and we advise such patients to stay in isolation,” he said.
“The Odisha government is alert and keeping an eye on the situation. We are following the guidelines of the Central government and will take necessary steps as and when the situation demands. We now have sufficient medicines, beds, oxygen, and logistics,” Dr Mishra said allaying fears.
Meanwhile, the active COVID caseload has increased in the country with the emergence of JN.1, a sub-variant of the BA 2.86 Omicron strain. Health experts said that the sub-variant is linked to the surge in COVID cases in the United States, Malaysia, and Singapore.
