Bhubaneswar: With the new sub-variant of Covid 19- JN.1- spreading its tentacles in other parts of the country, Odisha reported one positive for the Covid-19 in last 24 hours.
The State had reported one case on December 3 for the last time. After a gap of 20 days, one more case has been detected.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare confirmed the report through its website.
Experts predict a rise in the number of cases as the variant is highly transmissible. The new variant may not pose a severe risk to the patients.
People have been advised to stay cautious and follow the Covid protocols.
The State Health Department advised the elderly people and those with comorbidities to remain masked while going out and avoid visiting crowded places.
The State also geared up to ramp up testing and strengthen the surveillance system.
As per WHo data, the sub-variant has spread over 41 countries across the world.
As the cases are rising in other States like Kerala, most of the patients having mild symptoms are opting for home-based treatment.
