Bargarh: After Bijepur, now the residents of Barpali in Odisha’s Bargarh district are opposing the creation of the new Padmapur district. Normal life was hit in Barpali on Thursday in response to a 12-hour bandh call given by the Advocates’ Association of Barpali opposing the creation of the Padmapur district.
The protest comes in the wake of the Odisha government’s announcement regarding the creation of the Padmapur district. The advocates demand that the towns of Bijepur and Barpali in Bargarh should not be integrated to form the new Padmapur district.
According to the residents, currently, the district headquarters is just 15 km away from Barpali, but they would be required to commute 50 km to reach the new district headquarters of the proposed Padmapur district.
All government and private institutions, shops, and vehicles were closed in response to the bandh call today. The bandh supporters also opposed the merger of Barpali block and NAC.
