Phulbani: Three persons including a father and his son sustained critical burn injuries after a man threw acid on them over past rivalry at Sashi Pana Dokan Chhak under Town police limits in Phulbani on Thursday.
The victims have been identified as Chandra Mohanty, his son Suraj Mohanty and his friend Rakesh Mishra.
The attacker named Pramod Sahu was also captured and assaulted mercilessly by the locals. He was also critically injured.
All the victims and accused have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital, SDPO Suprasna Mallik said.
Suraj was gossiping with his friend Rakesh sitting on his bike at Sashi Pana Dokan chhak while accused Pramod suddenly appeared with a bowl filled with acid and poured on Suraj. Small quantity of acid also fell on his friend Rakesh.
Meanwhile, Suraj’s father also reached there and the accused didn’t spare him.
While they shouted, locals gathered there and captured the accused and thrashed him severely.
On being informed, Town police arrived at the scene and rushed them to hospital.
The accused has been arrested, the SDPO said.
No complaint has been lodged yet. “We will investigate the case once we receive the complaint,” he added.
“Pramod was also earlier convicted in a murder case and was released after spending his jail term. We will also bring his criminal antecedent into the purview of investigation. The Accused and all the victims are undergoing treatment in a critical condition. We haven’t recorded the statement of the accused as he is not in a condition to speak now,” the SDPO added.
