Dhenkanal: A rogue elephant which wreaked havoc in Boudh district has been shifted to an elephant rescue centre at Kapilas zoo in Dhenkanal.

The elephant was tranquilized and captured by a joint team of forest personnel and security forces of Boudh, Angul and Dhenkanal districts.

Later, the animal was loaded in a truck and brought to Kapilas on NH 55 via Angul and Dhenkanal town. The vehicle carrying the giant animal was escorted by the forest department vehicle and police.

The electricity supply was disconnected on the road on which the truck was passing as a precautionary measure.

The pachyderm reached the rescue centre safely and a team of veterinary doctors started treatment.

It will be kept in the rescue centre for treatment for some more days, Dhenkanal DFO said.

The tusker had created a reign of terror in Boudh by destroying a swath of farmland and killing people.
