Bhubaneswar: Balasore police have successfully detected two ATM theft attempt cases and arrested eight persons in this connection.
According to an official press release, police have arrested eight accused persons and seized some instruments used for cutting open ATMs. The articles seized from the accused persons include gas cylinder, cutter, pipe, oxygen regulator, motorcycle, crowbar, telengakaturi, seven mobile phones, black spray, etc.
On the intervening night of January 04/05 the accused persons attempted to commit theft at an ATM at Durgadevi market by cutting the ATM machines by using Gas cutter but failed to open the iron chest.
Similarly, another attempt by accused persons to commit theft had occurred in an ATM at Rasalpur market on the intervening night of November 28/29 last year. The accused person had also attempted to commit theft by cutting the ATM machines by using Gas cutter but failed.
So no cash had been stolen from both the ATMs.
During investigation of both the cases, Remuna police has busted a gang of 09 persons who were involved in those attempts to commit theft in both the ATMs. While eight of the arrested persons are from Balasore district, one is from Mayurbhanj district.
Police have seized instruments like gas cylinder, cutter, pipe, black spray, oxygen regulator, crowbar etc from their possession. The accused persons confessed to have also committed another ATM burglary attempt at Kuamara under Khunta police limits but failed to succeed.
One of the accused persons is still absconding.
