Bhubaneswar: Amidst the dense fog, the capital city of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, some interior districts, and south coastal Odisha are experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall since Sunday late night under the influence of the prevailing high-pressure system.
According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, the rainfall activity is likely to continue till January 25 and there will be a change in weather thereafter. Several places in Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh are likely to receive rainfall today.
Rain coupled with foggy weather disrupted normal life and pulled down the mercury several notches in different parts of the state. Visibility was reduced considerably affecting vehicular traffic.
The change in the weather conditions has intensified the winter cold once again.
Meanwhile, the mercury dropped appreciably in several places across the state due to rain. Kirei was the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 8.7°C, followed by Koraput at (10.1°C), Jharsuguda at (10.6°C), Rourkela at (10.8°C), Baripada at (11.6°C), Keonjhar (11.8°C), and Sundargarh (12.2°C).
The weather office said on Monday that Hindol in Dhenkanal received the highest 47 mm rainfall, followed by Bhuban (27 mm), Paradip (15.9 mm), Ghasipura (15.3) and Soro (15mm).
