The bandh that started at 6 am will continue till 6 pm.

The BJP Yuva Morcha launched a 12-hour bandh over the inordinate delay in land acquisition by the Odisha government for the Jeypore-Nabarangpur railway project,

BJP alleged that the State government has failed to acquire land causing inordinate delay to the project even as the Centre sanctioned funds.

The saffron party also demanded the State government to recognise two of the oldest colleges in the district—Nabarangpur College and Pendrani College at Umerkote as government colleges.

Their other demands include adequate doctors and medical staff in district headquarters hospital and other government health centres, land acquisition for the Umerkote Ethanol project, sub-division status to Umerkote.

The impact of the bandh was witnessed in Nabarangpur town, Umerkote and other parts of the district. Shops, business establishments and schools, colleges remained shut.

The BJP activists appealed to the public to cooperate with them.

However, emergency services like ambulance and fire services have been excluded from the bandh.
