Bolangir: Nagar Congress Committee today observed a 12-hour bandh at Kantabanji after senior party leader and local MLA Santosh Singh Saluja faced a death threat on Monday.
The decision to observe bandh was taken after banners threatening veteran Congress leader Saluja surfaced at Kantabanji town in Bolangir district. In the banners, a miscreant had threatened to kill Saluja within 15 days. The banner was put up outside a shop near Kantabanji Girls’ High School. Upon being informed, police seized the banner and launched a detailed probe.
Condemning the act, the district wing of Congress decided to call a 12-hour bandh demanding stringent action against the miscreant for such disrespectful act.
The bandh, which began at 6 am on Tuesday, will continue peacefully till 6 pm. While shops and business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement has also been disrupted at Kantabanji.
Also, resentment is brewing among locals who, meanwhile, demanded immediate arrest of the miscreant who threatened to kill Saluja.
When asked, Kantabanji Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gouranga Charan Sahu said, “We have seized all the posters immediately after getting the news. We have already launched a manhunt to nab the miscreant. The perpetrator will not be spared. We will take action against him as per the law.”
