Boudh: In a tragic incident, a cyclist sustained severe injuries after an iron rod pierced one of his eyes as he fell into an open drain at Dhalapur on PWD Road under Puruna Cuttack police limits in Boudh district on Saturday.

According to sources, the cyclist fell into the open drain to give side to a car coming from opposite direction. As a result, he fell into the drain and iron rod pierced one of eyes making him bleed profusely.  Locals rescued the cyclist from the manhole and admitted him to Athamallik Hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.

Locals, meanwhile, expressed displeasure over PWD department’s dillydallying attitude in covering the drain with slab. Despite repeated pleas, the department is alleged to have done nothing in this regard.

Earlier, a biker died and a student got injured after falling into the open drain.
