Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Prafulla Samal and former Minister on Wednesday deposed before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Bhubaneswar.
On February 17, the central probing agency had asked the father-son duo to appear before it with all the relevant documents of Barapada Engineering College.
As per the instruction of ED, Samal appeared before the central investigative agency for grilling in connection with alleged financial irregularities at Barapada Engineering College in Bhadrak.
Samal and his son are alleged to have swindled crores of rupees collected from students as fees to buy lands and flats in Bhubaneswar and other places. Though there were complaints against Samal and his son, no action was taken against them. As a result, the case was handed over to the ED.
On February 15, the ED had raided as many as 10 places including six places in Bhadrak and four places in Bhubaneswar belonging to MLA Prafulla Samal who represents Bhandaripokhari constituency.
It had also seized a car and Rs 10 lakh from his son Prayaskanti’s residence at Palaspalli in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier, ED had raided the house of the former principal of Barapada Engineering College which is being run by Samal.
