Bhubaneswar: The mercury is likely to soar further across Odisha from Monday amid a light to moderate rain forecast in a few places in the state. According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, the temperature is likely to rise by 4°C to 6°C across Odisha in the next three to four days.
The IMD has expressed apprehensions that the day temperature (maximum temperature) in some places in Odisha may touch 40°C in the coming days.
The Meteorological Centre at Bhubaneswar informed on its X handle that the minimum temperature (night temperature) is likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C during the next three days. The IMD added that there will be no major change in the temperature thereafter at many places in Odisha.
Meanwhile, Odisha is also likely to experience heavy rainfall this year as well. As per weather forecasts, Odisha is likely to experience above-normal rainfall during the three months from July to September owing to the El Nino effect, which is currently active over India.
Under the influence of this, severe heat waves have been predicted across Odisha.
There is a possibility of light rain with lightning in some districts along with south coastal Odisha.
Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal while weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.
