Mayurbhanj: Bisoi police on Friday arrested a woman on charges of selling two sisters who happen to be her nieces in relation.
Police sources said the sister duo named Reetarani and Lakhmi were allegedly taken to Rourkela from the Bisoi region of Mayurbhanj district on December 6 last year by their aunt Debajani and a man named Bapi on the pretext of giving them jobs. Debajani and Bapi had promised to give Rs 17,000 monthly salary to each every month.
The sister duo was then taken to Rajasthan from Rourkela for ‘training’. When their father tried to contact his daughters over the phone, their numbers were found switched off.
The younger sister somehow managed to contact her father over the phone and informed him that they were sold. Lakhmi urged her father to rescue them from the clutches of Debjani and Bapi. Knowing this, Lakhmi’s father filed a complaint with Bisoi police.
Without delay, a police team left for Rajasthan tracked their mobile phones, and rescued both the sisters from there.
