Bhubaneswar: The noble gesture of family members of a CRPF jawan gave a new lease of life to two patients.
Following the death of the CRPF jawan identified as Krushna Chandra Mahabhoi of Sarua village in Khurda district, his family members on Monday donated his heart and liver to the needy patients and saved two lives.
According to sources, Mahabhoi, a resident of Sarua village in Khurda district, was working as a CRPF jawan for the last 26 years. For the last two years, he had been battling for life after being diagnosed with kidney-related ailments.
He was undergoing dialysis for quite some time. His condition worsened on March 20 following which his family members rushed him to a Bhubaneswar-based private hospital. He was declared brain-dead after two days of his admission to the hospital. It was then his family members decided to donate his organs for a noble cause.
It is learnt from hospital sources that Mahabhoi’s heart will be carried to Kolkata while his liver will be taken to Mumbai through the green corridor by flights. Doctors did not retrieve his lungs due to some complications.
The CRPF jawan is survived by his wife, a twenty-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter.
Going by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement, the funeral of Mahabhoi will be conducted with full state honours.
