Dhenkanal: Police on Saturday arrested five dacoits from near the Bata Panthei temple in Matia Mundia jungle of Bhapur under Sadar police station limits of Dhenkanal.
According to the police, the accused persons have been identified as Milua alias Milan Naik (26), Disua alias Dusmanta Naik (24), Santa alias Santosh Naik (23), and Gundicha Naik (28). All hail from Dhenkanal district, police said.
Police have seized 01 country-made pistol, 05 numbers of 7.65 ammunition, 01 sword, 01 sickle, 01 scooter, 01 motorcycle, 4 packets of chilli powder, etc from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off that some suspicious-looking persons equipped with deadly weapons had gathered near Bata Panthei temple in Matia Mundia jungle. Sadar police station staff rushed to the spot and found 4-5 persons had assembled and were discussing something.
Police cordoned off the area and nabbed them. On being searched the weapons mentioned above and other articles were found in their possession.
During interrogation at the police station, the accused persons confessed to having been involved in a series of robberies under different police stations of Dhenkanal district and bordering districts of Dhenkanal.
On verification, police found several cases registered against their names at various police stations.
Further investigation into the matter is under process.
