UK National Creating Ruckus In Holy City Shifted To AIIMS for Better Treatment

Puri: Foreign national Thomas Craze Sheldon, who allegedly attempted to enter the Jagannath temple in an inebriated condition and created a ruckus inside Swargadwar crematorium on Saturday, has been shifted to Bhubaneswar-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for better treatment.

Sheldon, a citizen of UK, was undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital here for the past two days.

According to sources, tipsy Sheldom created a ruckus at Swarga Dwar crematorium on Saturday morning. Upon being informed Sea Beach police reached the spot and overpowered him. He was taken to the police custody and released after submitting an undertaking.

Later on the day, he again attempted to enter the 12th-century shrine in an inebriated condition and attacked police and servitors for preventing him from entering the temple.

Town police detained him and interrogated him. The tourist alleged to have broken the window glass while the police were verifying his records. He also hit his head which led to injuries on his head and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. As he did not show any improvement, he has been shifted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar.

Talking to mediapersons, Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra said, “The foreign national has some behavioural issues. He created a ruckus at the Swargadwar crematorium and tried to enter the Jagannath temple. He was undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital. We have shifted him to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar for better treatment. Besides, we have contacted with the respective embassy of his country.”
