Bhubaneswar: Twenty after getting married, a woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws at Gadaromit village under Marshaghai police limits on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Adyasha Subhadarshini, daughter of Ajay Mohapatra of Bamadeipur under Kujang police limits in Jagatsinghpur.

Ajay alleged “We solemnized Adyasha’s marriage with Baman Mohapatra’s son Titu of Gadaromit village on March 11.  From the very first day of marriage, Titu’s family was complaining that Adyasha was not a suitable bride for Titu. They were meting out torture for dowry.”

“My daughter was made to drink water laced with poison. When she declined, they forcibly made her drink that water. Adyasha complained of chest and stomach pain after drinking that water. Even though she was writhing in pain, Adyasha’s parents-in-law did not take her to the hospital”, read the complaint filed by Ajay.

Ajay further alleged “When Adyasha’s condition became critical, her in-laws informed us.  They took Adyasha to Kujanga Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after I threatened them.  However, she was declared brought dead at SCB Medical College and Hospital. It was a murder. She was killed  for dowry.”

Based on the complaint filed by Adyasha’s father, the police registered a case in this connection and started an investigation into the matter.
