Bhubaneswar: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former MP Prasanna Acharya, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after meeting with a road mishap on National Highway 55 in Sambalpur district on March 14, got discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
Acharya was discharged from the hospital after 17 days of treatment.
According to sources, Acharya was severely injured after his car collided with a truck on NH 55 in Sambalpur district on the fateful day. His PSO was also critically injured in the mishap while his driver sustained minor injuries. Prasanna had received injuries on his head, eye, and neck.
The Rajya Sabha MP had received a total of 36 stitches on his body.
The mishap took place when they were returning to Bargarh from Bhubaneswar.
Acharya was taken to Redhakhol Hospital immediately after the mishap. Later, he was shifted to a Sambalpur-based private hospital after undergoing first-aid treatment. He was airlifted to Bhubaneswar a day later where he underwent surgery.
It is learnt that Acharya will be contesting from Redhakhol constituency.
