Bhubaneswar: An eight-day-old baby boy who was allegedly stolen from the Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) of District Headquarters Hospital in Balasore on Thursday afternoon, was rescued from a woman.
A hospital team and Balasore Police rescued the newborn from a woman of Durgadevi village after searching for him overnight.
According to police, Sushant Barik and his wife Tikili Rani of Athabatia in Baliapal, had admitted their eight-day-old baby boy to the SNCU of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the hospital on April 2 for jaundice treatment.
Sushant went to a nearby eatery to bring food for his wife at noon. To his utter surprise, he found his baby boy missing after came back. Tikili was asleep when the baby was stolen. Both Tikili and Sushant made frantic searches for the infant but in vain. Finding no other go, they filed a complaint with the outpost police of the hospital.
The couple also staged a dharana outside the office Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) seeking rescue of their missing son. They withdrew their protest after the CDMO gave a written assurance to rescue the child and hand him over to the parents by 8 am on Friday.
Meanwhile, the newborn is being treated at the SNCU ward of the hospital.
On the other hand, police detained started interrogating her to ascertain the reason behind stealing the newborn.
