Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at the Kaniha plant of NTPC in Talcher on Saturday.
According to sources, a fire broke out as the coal conveyor belt caught fire at the plant. The entire area has been filled with smoke following the fire mishap at the plant.
Dense plumes of black smoke rising from the burning structure were so high that they could be seen for several kilometres.
More than two Odisha Fire Services Department teams have swung into action and started an operation to douse the flames.
Till the last report came in, firefighting teams were struggling to control the fire.
Though the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, a short circuit or burning of coal due to friction heat is the possible reason behind the outbreak of fire.
