Bhubaneswar: Kerala police with the help of Kotpad police on Wednesday arrested a person on charges of stabbing his girlfriend to death in Kerala and fleeing to his hometown Kotpad in Kandhamal district to escape arrest.
The accused Samuel Bada Majhi is a resident of Rangapanga village under Kotpad police limits while the deceased has been identified Ritika Sahu of Chanchedi village.
According to sources, Samuel and Ritiki left for Kerala after falling in love with each other. They were working as daily wage labourers in Kerala to eke out a living. They were in a live-in relationship. However, Samuel used to pick up fights with Ritika after finding her talking to an unknown person over the phone.
Irate over it, Samuel on April 2 allegedly stabbed Ritika several times with the help of a sharp weapon and left her to write in pain. Ritika’s neighbours rescued her and rushed her to a hospital in a critical condition. She, however, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
On the other hand, Samuel came back to his village in Kandhamal district after committing the crime to escape police arrest.
Upon being informed, Ritika’s family went to Kerala and filed a complaint with local police against Samuel. Kerala police arrived at Kotpad as part of the investigation and nabbed Samuel with the help of Kotpad police.
Meanwhile, Kerala police took Samuel with them for further investigation.
