Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Padmakesarpur under Patia police limits after a moneylender with his aides hacked a person and his daughter-in-law over non-payment of interest on loan late Wednesday night.
The injured identified as Sanatan Das and his daughter-in-law Nirupama of Padmakesarpur are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
According to sources, Babula Das and his five acquaintances reached the residence of Sanatan when the latter was having dinner. Babula had lent money some time back. A spat ensued between Babula and Sanatan when the former asked the latter to pay interest on the loan.
An irate Babula attacked Sanatan with the help of a sharp weapon. When Sanatan’s daughter-in-law opposed Babula and his aides, she was not spared. The miscreants also attacked them and left her lying in a pool of blood. Not satisfied with the attack, Babula hurled bombs at Sanatan’s house before leaving the scene.
Villagers rescued the Sanatan and Nirupama and rushed them to SCB Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and informed the police.
On being informed, police reached the place and launched an investigation into the matter.
Two platoons of police force have been deployed in the locality to avoid untoward incidents.
