Former Sarpanch Gets 2 Yrs RI For Misappropriation Of Govt Money

Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Berhampur on Friday awarded 2 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a former Sarpanch for misappropriation of government money.

Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur on Friday sentenced Dimidi Rama Rao, former Sarpanch of Kidigaon gram panchayat under Kashinagar block in Gajapati district to 2 years RI and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 after convicting him for misappropriation of Government money by falsely showing expenditure under different heads in connection with execution of two projects during the year 2009-10 under MGNREG Scheme.

The court ordered that in default of payment of fine Rao has to undergo RI for 3 months more.

Rao was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for misappropriation of government money.
