Heatwave Likely To Prevail In Odisha, 18 Places Record 40°C Or More

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions prevailed in Odisha on Monday as the mercury soared 40°C or more at 18 places across the State with Baripada being the hottest at 41.4°C.

Bhubaneswar, Chandbali and Nuapada ranked second highest by recording 41.2°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) regional centre here.

The other places in the State that recorded 40°C or more are Malkangiri 41.1°C, Boudh 41°C, Jharsuguda 41°C, Titilagarh 41°C, Jagatsinghpur 41°C, Paralakhemundi 41°C,  Khordha 40.5°C, Nayagarh 40.5°C, Kendrapada 40.2°C, Kendrapada 40.2°C, Bhawanipatna 40°C, Bolangir, 40°C, Jajpur 40°C, Balasore 40°C, and Bhadrak 40°C.

The IMD said that due to prevailing mainly Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation day temperature is very likely to rise gradually by 4°C to 6°C at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days, consequently maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be more than 40°C or above at many places over the districts of Odisha and is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C over some districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days.

Hot and humid discomfort weather condition and heatwave is likely over districts of Odisha during the next 5 days, the weather agency said.

The IMD has issued a ‘yellow warning’ indicating heatwave condition is likely to prevail in several districts over the next four days.
