Sambalpur: Acting on a tip-off, Jamankira and Jujumura police in Odisha’s Sambalpur district raided Basupali and unearthed an illegal firearms manufacturing unit. The police have arrested two persons, Ganesh Singh and Arun Bhoi of Chirgonikhol under Sambalpur police limits and recovered a double-barrel rifle and one single-barrel rifle from their possession.
During interrogation, the arrested accused revealed the name of one Bidyadhar Pradhan was engaged in manufacturing illegal firearms in his house and selling them to various persons. When the police raided Bidyadhar’s house, he challenged the raiding party. However, the police overpowered him and searched his house.
During the search, police recovered 20 single-barrel rifles, three wooden rifle butts and five barrels with articles used in the manufacture of the country-made firearms. According to the police, several cases are pending against the three accused at different police stations in the district.
