Bhubaneswar: A cyclist was killed after a cola-laden truck ran over him on National Highway 16 in Balasore district on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Sangada village.

The mishap took place when the cyclist was going towards Balasore.  He was bit by the truck coming opposite direction. As a result, the cyclist died on the spot.

Though the truck driver fled the scene, locals chased him and caught him before handing him over to police.

Police, meanwhile, seized the truck and detained the driver for interrogation.

Following the mishap, villagers and family members of the deceased held up traffic on National Highway 16 demanding compensation for the deceased’s kin.

They withdrew their protest after the police pacified them and assured them to provide compensation.
