Bhubaneswar: With Odisha reeling under intense heatwave conditions, as many as 89 persons have been admitted to different hospitals across the state after falling ill due to sunstroke. They are undergoing treatment at several hospitals in the state, informed Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Monday.
Apart from 89 hospitalization cases, the state has witnessed one sunstroke death so far. Out of 89 hospitalization cases, 41 were from Sundargarh, 12 from Khurda, nine from Angul, seven from Mayurbhanj, seven from Jharsuguda and five from Sambalpur.
Out of 12 sunstroke cases reported from Khurda, seven persons are undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital.
Though there are allegations about more number of deaths due to heat stroke, the Health Department has not confirmed those cases, said Mishra.
It is pertinent to mention that sixty-two-year-old Laxmikanta Sahu of Maheshpur in Balasore district died due to sunstroke on April 15. This was the first sunstroke death this summer, an official at the Special Relief Commissioner’s office said.
