Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by rain in 15 districts of the state on Tuesday.
According to the weather office, many places in south and western Odisha will likely experience gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40- 50 kmph. Kalbaisakhi is very likely to occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj today.
People have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from lightning and take shelter during rain and lightning.
At the same time, the day temperature is very likely to be 40°C or above at many places over the districts of interior Odisha due to the prevailing mainly nor’ westerly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation. The maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by 3°C to 5°C in some districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours, the weather office has said.
The weather department further forecasted that the maximum temperature may fall by 2°C-3°C during the next three days in Odisha. However, the temperature will gradually rise by 2°C-3°C from April 26 in the state bringing back heatwave conditions.
Meanwhile, the capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar recorded the highest daytime temperature of 43.8°C on Monday – the highest in this season.
