Rain Brings Brief Respite From Gruelling Heat In Twin City

Bhubaneswar: After days of an intense heat wave across Odisha, a short spell of rain under the influence of norwester (Kalabaisakhi) brought solace for the residents of twin city-Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and neighbouring parts.

Athagarh, Banki, Narasinghpur and Baramba areas in Cuttack district witnessed rain and hailstorm that damaged many houses.

IMD, Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty informed that South-coastal Odisha, North coastal Odisha and neighbouring districts like Rayagada, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Nayagarh and south interior districts are likely to experience sporadic rainfall in the next 24 hours.

The day temperature may slightly drop in places experiencing Kalabaisakhi rain. But, heat wave conditions will continue. Red alert has been issued for next two days, orange alert for May 3 and 4 and yellow alert for May 5, Mohanty added.

The day temperature is likely to decrease by 2-5 degrees C after May 5, she informed.

Five places today recorded above 40 degrees C at 11.30 AM. The places witnessed 40 degrees C and above are Jharsuguda (41.3), Bhubaneswar (41.2), Sambalpur (40.6), Hirakud (40.4), Keonjhar (40).
