Bhubaneswar: At least 19 places in the state recorded maximum temperatures (day temperatures) of 40°C or more on Monday.
According to the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Bolangir was the hottest place in the state with a temperature of 44.5°C.
Going by the latest prediction made by the weather department, thunderstorms and rain are likely to offer some relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions for the next four days. Thunderstorms and rain are likely to lash Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Gajapati districts due to the effect of Kalabaisakhi.
The weather department also predicted that Odisha may witness thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorms on Tuesday due to an approaching western disturbance.
However, coastal Odisha experienced a brief relief from gruelling heatwave conditions thanks to Nor’wester rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. As predicted by the India Meteorological Department, Nor’wester rain lashed many parts of Bhubaneswar, Puri, Nayagarh and Ganjam where people have been reeling under scorching heatwave conditions.
