Bhubaneswar: Income Tax department officials on Tuesday seized cash amounting to Rs 5 crore from a luxury car in the Suryanagar area of the city.
Sources in the IT department said that the cash was seized from an SUV following a raid. The SUV from which the cash was seized reportedly belongs to a contractor from Jajpur town. He has been identified as Nihar Ranjan Mandhata.
However, it is not yet clear whether the cash was meant for use in the elections.
This cash haul has come a day after a flying squad seized cash over Rs 10 lakh from a car on the Boudh-Nayagarh border during vehicle checking.
