Bhubaneswar: Amid thunderstorms and lightning, the mercury is again soaring across Odisha after a brief lull due to rainfall triggered by Nor’wester. As a result, several places in the state are witnessing a gradual rise in day temperature (maximum temperature) by 2°C to 4°C from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar said that though the state is unlikely to experience an intense heatwave soon, the weather conditions will be uncomfortable during the next week.

At the same time, several places in the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with gusty surface wind with speeds reaching up to 30- 40 kmph. Several places in Odisha including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khordha, and Puri are likely to witness lightning and light to moderate rainfall during the next three hours.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature at four places in Odisha was around 40°C. Nuapada recorded the highest day temperature at 42.2°C.
