Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the pre-poll violence at Srikrushnasaranpur village under Khallikote police limits on Wednesday evening in which a person was allegedly murdered.
The SIT will arrest the rest of the accused persons early, collect proper evidence (scientific/ forensic/ digital), and submit a chargesheet within 30 days for early trial of the case.
Senior IPS officer RK Sharma ADGP (Hdqrs) will camp at Chhatrapur in Ganjam district to oversee law and order.
Notably, two groups had clashed at Srikrushnasaranpur village under Khallikote police limits on Wednesday evening over the affixing of posters. In the clash, a total of seven persons belonging to both groups were injured and one person was killed.
On Thursday locals gheraoed Khallikote police station demanding the arrest of those involved in the murder.
Following the gherao of Khallikote police station and stone pelting by locals on the police, the district administration imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC in a 100-meter radius of Khallikote police station.
So far police have arrested nine persons in connection with the pre-poll violence and murder
