Cuttack: A joint team of Cuttack RPF and Ranchi police has rescued a nine-month-old baby of Ranchi who was sold for Rs 58,000 in Odisha.
The team arrested five persons including three women for their involvement in the crime. The accused are Amit Sanatan Pal (36), Radha Sahoo, (38), Sunil Mishra (18) of Jobra under Malgodam police limits in Cuttack. Two other arrested persons are Nudrat Jahan and Sohana Begum of Charichhak in Puri district.
According to police, Pradeep Lohra of Latehar area in Jharkhand was taking rest at Ranchi Railway station along with his wife and his infant baby on May 12. When Pradeep went outside to bring some foods for his wife, three persons including a woman allegedly stole the baby after drugging Pradeep’s wife.
When Pradep returned with the foods, he found her wife in a semi unconscious condition with his infant missing.
He immediately filed a complaint at Chutia Police station in Ranchi, based on which police registered a case and launched an investigation.
After examining the CCTV footages and call details of some suspected persons, police traced the kidnappers to Jobra in Cuttack. Ranchi police with help of RPF Cuttack reached Jobra and identified the rented house of Amit, Radha Sahoo, Sunil Mishra. However, all the three accused were not present in the locality.
On intelligence inputs and tracking mobile records, the RPF came to known that the accused resided somewhere in Khurdha, police said.
With the help of RPF Khurdha, the joint team of Ranchi police and Cuttack RPF nabbed the trio, the investigating team informed.
During interrogation, they admitted that they had stolen the baby from Ranchi station and sold the baby through a middle woman named Nudrat Jahan (37) of Charichhak in Puri district for Rs 58,500. Nudrat had also sold the baby to a woman named Sohana Begum in the same locality.
The police team reached them arrested Nudrat and Sohana from their residence.
All the accused were forwarded to court. Further investigation is on, police said.
