Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar today said that it has not predicted formation of any cyclone over Bay of Bengal.
Centre director Manorama Mohanty said a low-pressure area is likely to be formed over southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22.
It is likely to move initially north-eastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around May 24, 2024.
“The IMD has not issued any alert regarding the cyclone. After the formation of low-pressure area, the picture will be clear. People should not get panic from today,” Mohanty said.
However, the condition is favourable for the formation of the low-pressure area.
Rain and thunderstorm is likely to occur in several parts of the State in the next couple of days.
The weather expert said that the IMD has kept a close watch on the development as the month is considered as time of cyclone.
The Low pressure area will help advance monsoon over the Andaman sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal. It is too early to confirm whether it will turn into a cyclone, the weather department said.
