Bhubaneswar: With less than 24 hours left for the third phase of polling in Odisha, pre-poll violence at Ghasipura in Keonjhar district has left a supporter of a political party critically injured.
The victim identified as Basanta Chakra is a resident of Pandua village. Basant is currently undergoing treatment at Saintala Community Health Centre in a critical condition.
Miscreants allegedly attacked Basant over political rivalry on Wednesday night. He was immediately rushed to Sainkul Community Health Centre and his health condition is stated to be critical.
The incident has sparked tension in the locality.
Earlier, pre-poll violence between two political parties at Khallikote has left one person dead and seven others injured.
The victim was identified as Dilip Pahan of Srikrushnasaranpur village under Khallikote police limits in the district.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday condemned the act of violence.
Later, the Odisha government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The four-member SIT is led by Ganjam Deputy Superintendent of Police Mershy Purti. Three other police personnel, including cyber and forensic personnel, are part of the SIT to assist the DSP in the probe.
