Bhubaneswar: In a bid to curb poll-related violence, Ganjam police have asked the owners of hotels, dhabas, betel shops and tea stalls to close their outlets by 8.30 pm till June 4.

Tea stalls and dhabas have become gossip centres during election time. Sometimes such discussions lead to heated arguments and violence.  To keep poll-related violence activities at bay, Ganjam Superintendent Police (SP) Jagmohan Meena instructed the inspector in-charges to ensure the closure of hotels, dhabas and tea stalls by 8.30 pm till June 4 in their respective areas at night to maintain law and order.

Talking mediapersons, Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena said, “We have appealed to the owners of tea stalls, eateries, dhabas and hotels to close their outlets by 8.30 pm to prevent violence in the post-poll period. This measure has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent clashes between the supporters of rival parties.”

It may be mentioned that police have arrested as many as 100 anti-socials under the Arms Act in the last week. Besides, police are conducting flag marches as part of their measures to curb poll violence.
