Jailed Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev Admitted To SCB As His Health Deteriorates

Bhubaneswar: Chilika MLA and BJP’s MLA candidate from Khordha Prashant Jagdev has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital due to illness in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Based on his lawyer’s application, Jagdev was brought from Khurda jail and rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital at 4 am. His health condition worsened in jail following which he was admitted to the hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Medicine ward of the hospital, said hospital sources.

It is pertinent to mention that BJP’s candidate from the Khordha Assembly constituency had gone to a polling booth to exercise his franchise when he allegedly toppled the EVM. Based on the complaint filed by the presiding officer, police arrested and sent him to jail on the charges of “causing damage” toppling an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the third phase of polling held in Odisha on May 25.

The Chilika MLA’s arrest led to a war of words between the leaders of the saffron party and the ruling Biju Janata Dal.

BJP leader Aparajita Sarangi termed the allegations levelled against Jagdev as baseless claiming that the accusations against Jagdev were politically motivated.  On the other hand, the BJD filed a complaint with the chief electoral officer (CEO), demanding strict action against Jagdev.
