Bhubaneswar: As none came forward to claim the body of a person who died in the Puri fire tragedy, Mangalabag police on Friday decided to cremate the body after post-mortem.

According to sources, the body of Dibyaranjan Sahu, one of the victims of the Puri fire mishap, has been lying for the last five days in the mortuary room at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Manglabag police were waiting for relatives of Sahu so that his cremation would be conducted after the post-mortem. As none came forward to claim the body, police have finally decided to send the body for post-mortem and cremate it.

Meanwhile, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology has collected samples from Sahu’s body.  Sahu’s teeth, blood, and hair samples have been sent to Rasulgarh-based State Forensic Science Laboratory for DNA test.

Notably, Sahu had sustained severe injuries in the Puri fire mishap and was rushed to Bhubaneswar-based Capital Hospital in critical condition. During his admission to the hospital, he was asked to reveal his identity. He had then identified himself as Dibyaranjan Sahu, son of Dushmanta Sahu. As his condition worsened, he failed to give his complete address.

He was soon referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He died while undergoing treatment at the Burn Care Unit ICU on June 1.

His body was kept at mortuary room for the last 96 hours. As it started decomposing, police decided to cremate following post-mortem today.
