Bhubaneswar: The Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district will remain shut for four months for visitors starting from June 12, informed the national park authorities on Friday.

The Field Director, STR Prakash Chandra Gogineni, issued a notice in this regard stating that the Tiger Reserve will be out of bounds for tourists and visitors tentatively till September 30.

The decision was taken on account of the protected area management initiative by the forest department.

However, the eco-tourism complex- Jamuani, Gurudia, Kumari, Barehipani and Ramtirtha shall remain open for visitors.

Every year, the tiger reserve authorities prohibit the entry of tourists to the reserve forest from mid-June to the October-end during the rainy season as road connectivity to various locations inside the sanctuary gets disrupted, sources said.

The tiger reserve, spread over an area of 2,750 sq km, attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists due to its varied flora and fauna, including the Black Melanistic Royal Bengal Tiger, and breathtaking waterfalls.
