Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two students drowned while taking a bath in river Bramhani at Vedavyas in Rourkela on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Samir Shivkumar Nayak of Pipili in Puri district and Rajat Sahu of Jaleswar in Balasore district.
Four others were rescued out of whom a girl has been admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital in a critical condition. The rescued students are Sambodhan Sahu of Anandpur, Abhilipsa Pradhan, Baisnodevi and Tapan Kumar Pradhan of Bhubaneswar.
The unfortunate incident occurred while six students including some girls who had come to the NIT-Rourkela for summer internship, went to the river to take bath. During bathing, all of them were swept away in the current.
Four of them were rescued and admitted to the hospital while two others were declared dead.
The condition of a girl among four rescued students is stated to be critical.
Brahmani Taranga police reached the spot and started an investigation. Police also seized the bodies for post-mortem.
