Balasore: Panic prevailed at Gada village near Khaira market in Balasore district after a leopard attacked six persons including a woman and forest guard leaving them seriously injured on Saturday afternoon.
The critically injured woman, Satyabhama Nayak (50), wife of Gananath Nayak, has been admitted to the Khaira Community Health Centre. Later, she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak as her condition deteriorated.
Satyabhama was working with her son and husband near the house when the big cat first attacked her. After the attack, she screamed and her son and husband shouted and raised an alarm.
The leopard entered the village when they shouted at the animal. Later, the villagers tried to chase the big cat. Later, forest officials arrived at the spot and launched a search to find the wild animal.
At this time, the tiger again came out from a bush near Satyabhama’s house and attacked her son Radhakant Nayak (20) and a neighbour Tankardhar Keisi (55), forest guard Kishore Chandra Bhuyan and another person before entering the bushes.
The forest personnel team and villagers tried to capture the big cat.
