Bhubaneswar: A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a slum under Banai police limits, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Raindra Sekhar Deo’s daughter Mani of Rajgangpur.

Mani’s family alleged that she was poisoned to death by her in-laws.

According to the deceased’s family, Mani was married to Amit Singh of Tola slum under Banai police limits four months back. From very first day of her marriage, she was meted out torture by her in-laws and family. Her in-laws killed her by giving her food laced with poison.

Mani’s parents also accused her in-laws of not disclosing about her death.

“They did not think it necessary to inform us about her death. We got to know about it from other sources and were shocked to find our daughter lying dead on a hospital bed”, alleged Mani’s mother.

Mani’s death sparked tension at the hospital as the deceased’s father and husband engaged in a serious altercation. Mani’s father is alleged to have assaulted his son-in-law who is meanwhile undergoing treatment at the hospital.

On the other hand, Mani’s husband Amit declining the allegations levelled against him and his family stated that Mani committed suicide by consuming poison. We rushed her to the hospital after knowing that. However, doctors declared her brought dead on arrival. My in-laws without understanding the fact accused us of killing Mani and assaulted us.

Acting on a complaint filed by Mani’s parents, Banai police began an investigation into it.
