Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband over a family quarrel at Asuria village under Khaira police limits in Balasore district late Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Kanchan Parida.
Khaira police, meanwhile, detained Kanchan’s husband Ramakant Parida and launched an investigation into it.
As per reports, Kanchan and Ramakant fought late Wednesday night over a petty issue. An enraged Ramakant beat Kanchan black and blue which led to the latter’s death on the spot.
Villagers found Kanchan lying dead. Upon being informed by villagers, police rushed to the spot and detained Ramakant.
Ramakant has also been accused of hacking a youth to death seven years back. Besides, he is accused of selling liquor in his village despite stiff opposition from villagers.
“Kanchan is my sister-in-law. I got a call from Kanchan’s son Panua who resides in Hyderabad. Panua asked us to visit his home as soon as possible as his mother is not well. To our utter surprise, we found Kanchan’s body lying in a pool of blood while Ramakant was sleeping on the bed. Kanchan’s body bore injury marks. Ramakant used to beat her over silly issues. He is not a good human being. Kanchan was not happy in her marital life. Ramakant should not be given bail and stringent action should be taken against him”, said the deceased’s relative Annapurna Parida.
Jagannath Samal, a villager, said, “We found Kanchan dead on Thursday morning and informed the police. Ramakant used to sell liquor and beat Kanchan every day for which Kanchan’s mental state was not good. He had murdered a youth seven years back. We did not know what had happened yesterday. Ramakant might have killed Kanchan in a state of inebriation. He should be sentenced to life imprisonment because he has so far killed two persons including Kanchan. He is polluting the village environment.”
