Bhubaneswar: A 90-year-old woman sustained critical burn injuries after miscreants set her house on fire at Mathura village in Harabhanga of Boudh district on Saturday late night.
She has been admitted to Boudh district headquarters Hospital. About 80% parts of her body were burnt.
The victim, Kaushalya Bagarti was inside the room when the fire engulfed the houses. Her son and daughter-in-law and other members came out of the house and later they broke open the door and rescued Kaushalya in critical condition.
The family alleged that some miscreants set their house on fire while they were asleep at night. Two rooms of their house were completed burnt. Their belongings worth lakhs of rupees have been destroyed.
“Our vehicle, cycle, clothes and furnitures were reduced to ashes. We don’t know who set afire at night. Our elderly mother suffered critical burns. We admitted her to the hospital,” a family member said.
