Bolangir: In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident, a youth thrashed his paternal grandmother to death with a stick at Bhalukhai village under Belapada police limits in Bolangir district on Tuesday after she refused to part away with her old age pension with him.
While the deceased woman has been identified as Joga Bhue, the accused, her grandchild has been identified as Raj Bhue.
Belapada police have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. Police have taken Raj into custody and are quizzing him.
According to reports, Joga after receiving her old age pension had kept the money with her. Raj had asked for the pension money to which Joga refused. Furious, over Joga’s refusal to part with the money, Raj allegedly thrashed her with a stick leading to her death instantly.
Raj fled the spot after committing the crime. While fleeing he was overpowered and captured by fellow villagers who later informed the police.
Belapada police on reaching the village took Raj into custody and while seizing Joga’s body for post-mortem.
