Bhubaneswar: One woman died, and seven others were critically injured after an auto rickshaw hit a stationary tractor from behind near the Shiva temple of Bagdera village coming under Sadar police station of Sambalpur district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified, as Sourendri Bagh (53) of Ghenupalli Dumalpada village of Sambalpur.
As per reports, Sourendri and other men from her village were returning home from Sadar police station when the auto-driver, due to poor visibility, collided with a tractor from behind.
Locals rushed to the spot, rescued four critically injured passengers along with the auto driver, and informed the police officials.
All victims were transferred to the Sadar Hospital via ambulance, where Sourendri was declared dead, and seven critically injured were shifted to the Burla Hospital for advanced treatment.
The police officials have seized both vehicles and initiated an investigation into the matter.
